The Role

What's the role -

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support with managing integrity, reliability, and operability of all electrical designs & installations at the Shell refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. Within this role, your focus will be to support with advising the Technical, Maintenance & Operations departments on electrical matters to ensure safe, reliable & efficient operation and ensure compliance to provincial & federal codes & standards. You will have the ability to influence production management teams on integrity-based decisions to ensure the correct balance of risk and cost considerations in business decisions. One of the main objectives of the role is to achieve safety, reliability, and assurance over a large complex, and you will be responsible for determining which activities deserve the most priority and resources. In this role, you will work closely within a team of electrical engineers and electrical specialist and will be provided with the opportunity to build on your skills and capabilities within the electrical discipline.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide assurance, leadership, auditing, and design control of electrical activities

  • Review and approve electrical activities as per the Shell Canada Electrical Safety Standards

  • Lead critical task analysis

  • Conduct failure analysis and causal investigation of electrical failures or incidents

  • Authorize plant changes within the electrical discipline and contribute to reviews

  • Approve electrical content of plant changes by other disciplines

  • Champion electrical equipment upgrade and replacement planning activities

  • Provide electrical design support to major projects

  • Perform and/or review site system studies such as arc-flash, motor starting, and coordination

  • Oversee and support implementation of electrical work during turnarounds

  • Collaborate with Assets and Contracts & Procurement teams to drive standardization and quality requirements for equipment and achieve optimal life cycle cost

Skills and Requirements:

What we need from you -

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelors or master's degree in electrical engineering

  • Registered with APEGA

  • 4+ years related experience

  • Familiarity with SKM or ETAP Modeling software

  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code

  • Electrical Heat Tracing (EHT) knowledge

  • Electrical distribution, generation, and control equipment knowledge

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical problems with maintenance and operations
