About the job

The Operations Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the DeBolt operation. Ensuring leadership, grower service activities, processing, warehousing and production operations are performing efficiently and effectively.

People management responsibilities include hiring, maintaining proper full-time and seasonal/temporary workforce levels, and providing leadership which includes delegating and supervising workloads. Providing the proper tools and environment for employees to perform their duties effectively and safely will be a key success factor.

This position will require that proper maintenance management, repair, and upkeep of all equipment, buildings, and vehicles is performed.

Role Responsibilities:

· An active member of the leadership team that participates in developing and implementing both annual and strategic plans.

· Financial responsibility around forecasting and management of the operations budget.

· Achieve budget targets and efficiencies.

· Mentor, challenge, and develop personnel. Oversee the field staff, administrative staff, production and warehouse staff in a manner that maintains high morale, respect and satisfaction.

  • Lead and monitor the development, implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures and operating guidelines within responsible functional areas.
  • Direct and manage department activities and leadership of facilities management including preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare production and manpower planning/ schedules.
  • Ensure inventory is reconciled within software systems.
  • Identifies and supports plans for new business development.
  • Responsible for the overall direction of the business including industry representation and development of resources.
  • Maintain Registered Seed Establishment; ensure sufficient number of authorized graders.
  • Develop and maintain documented quality assurance procedures; ensure compliance with appropriate seed regulations.
  • Work with Product Development, Sales and Production to determine acres needed for each variety as directed and arrange for their production, including new varieties coming to market.
  • Work with subcontractors to produce high quality and timely delivery of seed.
  • Manage Seed Production contracts and ensure their timely entry and execution.
  • Provide timely crop updates to company personnel.
  • Ensure adequate amounts of seed stock for all varieties.
  • Cultivate relationships and form mutual trust with new and current seed growers.
  • Negotiate seed production contracts to the mutual benefit of DLF and seed growers.

Qualifications:

· Degree/Diploma/Certificate in agricultural, agronomy or business related field.

· 5+ years' experience in the seed industry or allied industries.

· 5+ years of progressive leadership in an operations environment.

· Knowledge of the functionality of warehouse machinery and equipment.

· Demonstrated examples of significant operational improvements in work history.

· Excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills.

· Strong organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization skills and follow-up skills

· Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

· Willingness to travel as needed (20-30%)

Compensation and Benefits:

This position comes with a competitive compensation plan that includes a base salary, benefits, Group RRSP option with company matching program, and a bonus. Compensation will be based on experience.
