If so, a position in the Alberta Wildfire Coordination Centre may be an ideal seasonal position for you.

The AWCC Support position is required to perform a variety of duties. The first priority is to process reports of wildfires reported via the emergency 310-FIRE telephone line. In addition, they are responsible for general reception calls, to complete data entry, post reports to the website, and support the various wildfire operations daily activities.

Other roles and responsibilities are:

  • Answering the 310-FIRE line and transferring the call to the appropriate Forest Area. In addition, the call will need to be entered into the FIRES / or Dispatch application.
  • Answering incoming phones calls to the AWCC room. Calls will need to be directed to the appropriate person and/or information provided to the caller if the call is of a general nature.
  • Assist with logistical requirements as required by AWCC Logistics i.e. transportation, lodgings, and food.
  • Completing daily updates to the Wildfire Management website.
  • General office and administrative duties.
  • Be available for export to other Areas and/or out of province.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards:

  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • High school diploma and one (1) year of related experience is required.


Education & Experience Required:

  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and planning skills.
  • Ability to work with various personalities.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing work environments.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Valid Defensive Driving Certificate
  • Current Driver's Abstract - A Driver's Abstract, showing a record of seven (7) demerits or less. Your driver's abstract is required to be obtained within 30 days prior to your commencement date and must be presented to management prior to your commencement for the above stated position.
  • Completion of the Par-Q and/or fitness test


Education & Experience Preferred:

  • Experience using Wildfire Management software: Fire Information Resource System (FIRES), and Dispatch.
  • Knowledge of aircraft, equipment capabilities, and personnel resources used in wildfire suppression.
  • Knowledge of the Wildfire Management program, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and OneNote.

Salary

$21.41 to $26.05 per hour

Notes

This competition is for seasonal wages positions with weekly hours up to 36.25 and projected terms of employment from April 2022 to September 2022. Those selected for an interview are requested to bring three work-related references.

What We Offer
Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
