About Us


Role

Alberta Justice and Solicitor General has one Legal Assistant position available at the Grande Prairie Prosecutors office. Join a supportive team environment that provides challenging work in the legal field.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate pre-charge consultation and/or contact with stakeholders.
  • Manage witnesses, including scheduling interviews, explaining the criminal process, answering and/or resolving questions and concerns.
  • Liaise with external and internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate handling of criminal files.
  • Manage, organize and maintain Prosecutor files.
  • Track and maintain disclosure.
  • Prepare court brief (trial books).
  • Prepare and file complex legal documentation such as Notices of Motion, Orders and a wide variety of other court documents.
  • Respond to and follow up from enquiries from the public, defense counsel and the accused.
  • Create and complete all forms of correspondence.
  • Perform specialized ad hoc administrative tasks as assigned by the Deputy Chief Prosecutor.
  • Cover reception duties
  • Assist other Legal Assistants as required

To be successful in this role, you must possess strong interpersonal skills and act in a responsible, professional manner. Your strong communication skills are essential to respond to questions and provide information to the judiciary, government officials, and members of the public. Discretion and diplomacy are required to process sensitive and confidential information. The successful candidate will work well in a team environment, shift priorities with little or no notice and be able to handle high volumes of work.

Qualifications

Two year diploma in a related field such as Legal Assistant, Paralegal, Office administration plus one year progressively responsible related experience.


Experience in a legal environment specializing in criminal or traffic law is preferred.


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

Salary

$2,017.62 to $2,480.72 bi-weekly

These positions work Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
