Work Description:
The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will play a key role in designing and developing various projects utilizing the latest 2D and 3D CAD software. They will be tasked with generating unique solutions to many complex problems and challenges within equally demanding constraints.
Attention to detail and time management will be critical to project success. The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will actively collaborate with the project lead and client to ensure that the client's requirements and expectations are fully met.
As 4D provides services to multiple industries, knowledge, and ability within civil, electrical, mechanical, process disciplines will be considered vital assets. Responsibilities:
- Prepare preliminary designs from rough sketches, project discussion, and conceptual ideas.
- Research and implement codes, regulations, guidelines, and client criteria into suitable designs and solutions.
- Maintain design inputs as the project evolves and matures.
- Effectively works with the project lead and responsible engineer to ensure the designs are both safe and functional.
- Develop comprehensive 3D models in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit, or Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Produce detailed layout, assembly, and fabrication drawings complete with a precise and accurate bill of materials (BOM)
- Create and maintain process flow diagrams (PFD), process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and Hydraulic Schematics.
- Produce practical and comprehensive schedules to meet client deadlines.
- Reviews customer's order requirements and ensures all information required exists for the manufacture of the projects/products.
- Provide fabrication support as required to ensure design intent is maintained throughout fabrication.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively cooperate with internal and external clients, vendors, and fabricators.
- Strives to continuously improve and evolve with new technologies, software, and workflows.
- Maintain libraries, Styles, and Standards.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Other duties may be assigned and required as necessary.

- Must draw from multiple sources and combine them into a comprehensive and cohesive design.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities, preferably with hands-on experience.

Requirements:
- 1 to 6 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer.
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering an asset.
- CET or EIT designation is considered a benefit.
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor Professional.
- Experienced with Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Capable with Autodesk Plant 3D and Autodesk Revit.
- General knowledge with Autodesk Navisworks
- Competent with MS Office, primarily Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of various manufacturing processes, techniques, and capabilities.
- Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn and develop personal skills and abilities.

- Receives moderate supervision with less frequent direction and review of the work performed.
