As a summer student, you will be given meaningful, productive and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. As a summer student, you will have the opportunity to work on a project that aligns with the work of River Engineering Team, as well as supporting various ongoing work with the team. You will be working with a team of Professional Engineers whose works spans the areas of flood resilience, drought resilience, monitoring and forecasting watershed conditions, dam safety, bioengineering and riparian improvements, erosion and geomorphology, reviewing infrastructure designs and development applications, and associated policies and regulations. Primary duties include:
- Development and population of a river asset management database and tracking tool.
- Comparative analysis of river bank protection project costs.
- Compilation of groundwater information in the river valleys.
- Dam safety program support.
- GIS data management.
- Field work including creek flow measurements, river and groundwater data logger program.
- Enrolled in a Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related Engineering degree.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Previous experience and/ or courses in river engineering, GIS, hydrogeology, dam safety and/ or asset management would be considered an asset.
- A valid class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and the use of personal vehicle.
- Possess strong communication skills, and time management skills.
- Able to complete tasks independently with guidance, demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively within a team are essential for success in this role.
- Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2022
