As a summer student, you will be given meaningful, productive and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. Calgary Housing Company (CHC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary. We are transforming to support resident success, modernize our business, and contribute to creating diverse, inclusive communities. An important part of this transformation involves the creation of a new affordable housing real estate portfolio management function and division within CHC. This student position role will help to support the new team and leaders in setting up foundational portfolio management practices and policies. Responsibilities include:
- Assist with the development of a program guide and property management policies or processes for managing one of CHC's managed portfolios which consists of 1,200 affordable housing units managed according to negotiated funding and operating agreements, applicable provincial legislation (ex. Alberta Social Housing Act) and property management objectives.
- Assist the Leaders of Portfolio Management in developing transition plans to support the continued transition of City and CHC owned social housing to a mixed income operating model.
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies for affordable housing real estate portfolio management at Calgary Housing Company.
- Conduct best practices research to inform on practices and programs for transitioning affordable housing portfolios to mixed income models.
- Enrolled in a degree program in Business, Planning, Real Estate, Policy Studies, Law, or Communications is required.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience using Power BI would be a strong asset.
- Experience in non profit/housing or government would be an asset.
- Experience in policy or technical writing will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of real estate or property management would be an asset.
- Strong communication and the ability to work independently and as part of a team a necessary in this role.
- Attention to detail and proven technical writing skills are required.
- Financial acumen as well as data gathering and analysis skills would be an asset.
- Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2022
- A security clearance will be conducted.
