The Opportunity:

The City of St. Albert's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking to fill a permanent Community Events Coordinator position (CEC). The position is primarily responsible for supporting identified special events for the City of St. Albert. The CEC will coordinate, organize, and produce a variety of events that are specific to City-operated facilities including concerts, sporting events, trade shows and community wide events such as multi-sport games.

The Community Events Coordinator liaises between event organizers and City Departments for the provision of identified event support services. This includes support to special event organizers that range from local non-profit groups to commercial entities utilizing indoor/outdoor recreational and public space within the City of St. Albert.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments who support events, including Public Works, Police, Fire, Transit, Culture, Engineering, and Economic Development.
  • Coordinate internal and external event support services.
  • Contract development and implementation.
  • Develop timelines for event implementation for stakeholders and service providers.
  • Ensure the coordination of all necessary events permits, licenses, insurance, OH&S processes and event resources.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding events.
  • Actively work as a member of community event organizing committees.
  • Complete administrative tasks including reporting, budgeting, fee review, and event documentation.
  • Assist with the bid process for high-profile recreation events.

The role is well suited for an individual who has a background in event/contract management, facilitation, and negotiation. This candidate must also have the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives and activities in a fast-paced environment. The position demands an individual that is organized, adaptable, and diplomatic. The successful candidate will also possess solid decision-making, problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Event Management, Hospitality, Recreation or related field and minimum 3 years experience in a recreation, facilities scheduling or event coordination role. Related education and 5 years experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Office Suite is required. Prior use of a facility scheduling software, such as CLASS or IntelliLeisure is an asset.
  • A Class 5 driver's license and personal vehicle are required for this role.

Hours of Work:

You will work a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks). This position will be required to work adjust their schedule to accommodate meetings or events during evenings and/or weekends.

Compensation:

$60,515 - $74,480 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive flexible benefit package.
