Summary
Zedcor is looking to add an intermediate accountant to its accounting team in Calgary. We are a small group of hard-working people (fewer than 100 employees) who will do anything to make sure our customers are satisfied, and the business succeeds. This will be an integral role within our small accounting team that has room for growth as the company expands. Working closely with the accounting manager and the CFO, this role will include a mix of tasks requiring hard work and an aptitude for numbers. This position will allow the successful candidate to participate in day-to-day tasks as well as projects. You will develop a variety of accounting, finance and process improvement skills. This position will be based out of our Calgary office and will be perfect if you are detailed oriented, have a positive can-do attitude, can solve problems and are willing to step outside your comfort zone to push the company forward. This role is responsible for managing our AP automation software, processing payments, bi-weekly payroll, assisting with month end reconciliations and reporting, budget to actual analysis, and quarterly financial statement preparation.
Summary of tasks
- Manage Zedcor's AP automation software including, reviewing purchase orders for coding, complete vendor credit check forms and maintain vendor database for accuracy and update to date information
- Prepare cheque runs and respond to queries from vendors
- Manage inventory accounting and accounting for capital assets under construction
- Complete bi-weekly payroll and reporting, including summarizing employee timesheets
- Manage company fuel card
- Complete bank reconciliations; assist with month end reconciliations
- Implement, review, document and improve accounting process flow; liaise with operations team to ensure process flow is efficient and makes sense for the business
- Assist with month end financial statement preparation and budget to actual analysis
- Assist with quarterly financial statement preparation and analysis for board meetings
- Update forecasts for with actual monthly results
- Assist with weekly and quarterly cash flow forecasting
- Assist with operational KPI tracking, reporting and analysis
- Assist CFO with investor presentations and analyst requests
- Act as our in house ERP expert; field questions from other departments and ensure the system is being used to full extent
- Monthly GST and PST return preparation
- Perform other duties as requested; general office duties
Qualifications and skills

- Must be intelligent, hard working with a positive attitude; willing to assist with tasks outside of normal day to day tasks
- Strong aptitude for numbers, ability to analyze a large volume of data and present insights in a concise manner for audience
- 2-4years' experience in full cycle accounting, finance or audit; will be perfect for a CPA with 0-2 years post designation experience who is looking to gain broad, hands on industry experience
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, problem solve and provide solutions
- Knowledge of ERP systems, AP automation software and other modern accounting software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Outlook
- Self starter, driven and motivated to work independently with little oversight
- Keen sense of curiosity and an ability to research, analyze data and explain numbers
- Some travel to branch locations may be required
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
