PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the Crossing Compliance Project Engineer you will report to the Project Manager, and apply your project management experience in the transportation industry by executing various projects from the scope identification phase to project close-out. Projects will be varied in scope from minor to major earthworks and full crossing rehabilitations. You will be responsible for project financials, status reports and project schedules while managing internal and external stakeholder expectations. Experience with the requirements of the Transport Canada Grade Crossings Regulations and Standards would be helpful but not required. Together with the compliance team you will perform site reviews of priority crossings, validate changes proposed by internal and external groups and recommend work plans based on requirements.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Developing project scopes by reviewing and validating internal and external crossing assessments;
- Assisting in funding negotiations with key stakeholders;
- Conducting on-site assessments as required to develop or validate scope of work;
- Conducting project cost tracking, forecasting, cost control, close out auditing and reporting
- Prioritizing construction projects;
- Validating changes proposed by internal and external groups and recommend appropriate course of action to maintain compliance with the regulations;
- Assisting with development and progression of corporate interpretations, best practices and improvements related to crossing compliance;
- Directing alternatives analysis with crossing compliance team;
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Provincial association;
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is beneficial;
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited institution;
- Minimum 5 years of civil engineering or railway experience;
- Ability to manage conflicting timelines/requirements and to prioritize;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office, SAP, Microsoft Project;
- Experience with Qliksense or PowerBi is helpful but not mandatory;
- Valid driver's license.
