Job Description


As a Software Development Team Lead, reporting to Director of Data Management Technology, you will be responsible for leading, developing and coaching your team, use your technical knowledge of professional concepts to assist in building new solutions to data management problems.

You will be responsible for evaluating elements of technology's effectiveness through requirements gathering, testing, research and investigation and make recommendations for improvements that result in increased quality and effectiveness.

You'll listen to and evaluate customer needs to determine and provide high quality solutions that align with their expectations. You'll be required to delegate tasks in an efficient manner for all software development activities to enable development of enhancements and 2nd/3rd line support of web data management solutions.

Qualifications


Relevant qualification in any of the following disciplines:

  • Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related subject.
  • Or have significant and demonstrable professional experience in a similar role.
  • A Bachelor's, Master's or PHD level degree in any of the aforementioned disciplines would be desirable.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • The ability to manage software projects utilising agile methodologies.
  • Managing software release cycles.
  • Collaboration between other software development teams and Business lines across multiple time zones.
  • Very good understanding of software project management tools ideally - Jira / Confluence / Bamboo / Fisheye
  • Keep stake holders informed of project progress.
  • Coach and mentor team members.
  • Ability to Architect and design secure web based solutions using best software practices.
  • Have excellent technical problem solving and debugging expertise.
  • Ability to perform analysis of requirements from users / stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of GIS web based solutions.
  • Proficient in using Linux based operating system.
  • Have demonstrable software designcoding experience.
  • Understand database schemas designs, administration and SQL query syntax.
  • Understand ETL processes and technologies for data flows.
  • Good understanding of web hosting architecture.
  • Very good understanding VCS ideally GitLab..
  • Have in depth knowledge of Java project build systems – ideally Maven.
  • JEE development covering JSF (Primefaces) / Hibernate.
  • Unit testing procedures utilising Junit / Selenium.
  • Web technologies such as HTML / Javascript / CSS.
  • MySQL database server technologies.
  • Eclipse IDE technologies and workflows.


Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes etc.)
  • Cloud environments (AWS, Azure GCP)
  • Security tools such as Nessus or Burp Suite
