Job Title Studio Technician – Fine Arts Technician I (Limited Term)
Position DetailsThe University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts is accepting applications for a full-time one-year limited term Studio Technician with an approximate start-date of May 2nd, 2022.
Reporting to the Faculty of Fine Arts Facilities Manager, the Studio Technician, is a member of a skilled technical team, participating in the efficient and safe operation of studios, laboratories, and student exhibition spaces. The Studio Technician plays a hands-on role in the day-to-day operation of FFA facilities with an emphasis on sculptural processes and materials including: wood working, metal fabrication, foundry and ceramics and assists in other areas including: foundations, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and digital media studios. The position involves directly guiding, monitoring, and assisting student use of equipment, and supporting learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
This position entails working in a range of art studio processes including woodworking, metalworking, casting, ceramics, and digital fabrication. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: delivery of safe work practices instruction in art fabrication processes, providing technical demonstrations, assisting in the maintenance and installation of equipment, design and fabrication of specialized task furnishings, supporting instructional needs, and other technical duties as assigned.
Please note that the employee currently working in the role, on a Casual basis will be applying for this position.
The salary range for this position is currently under review.
Position QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in studio art and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; a suitable combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate should have the ability to perform manual duties, often requiring strenuous physical exertion. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of materials and processes related to art studio practices and must be able to assist and clearly instruct students in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of different manual and mechanical tools related to art studio production. Experience with woodworking and welding would be an asset.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualities: strong communication and teamwork skills within a collaborative environment, and the ability to manage competing priorities while paying attention to details. Given the nature of the course offerings and student work needs this position will be required to work some evenings and weekends.
