About Us


Role

Do you believe in the power of mediation? Business and Resolution Services is inviting interested candidates to apply for the role of Civil Mediation Coordinator. This is a temporary full-time position for one year with the possibility of extension.


The Civil Mediation Coordinator will act as the point of contact for the Program, and is responsible for the leadership and effective delivery of Civil Mediation services in Edmonton, including:

  • screening civil claims for suitability for mediation
  • assigning cases to roster mediators
  • liaise and communicate with stakeholders and clients, the legal community and Judiciary
  • participate in the planning and organizing of learning events for roster members
  • provide leadership and support for administrative staff members and a roster of mediation service providers
  • participate and contribute to the leadership of Business and Resolution Services' dispute resolution programs
  • Act as Complaint and Issues Management Officer for the Program when required in collaboration with the leadership team
  • Ensure the efficient use of program resources, and quality of service delivered for -Albertans in various regional locations across Alberta
  • Lead and contribute to multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity to support program development

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Civil Court processes and Civil Claims Mediation. A proven ability to establish positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders while succeeding in Program objectives is essential.
Strong organizational, analytical and coaching skills are required to be successful in this position. Experience with the development and implementation of new initiatives as well as planning and organizing the delivery of educational presentations will be considered assets. The successful candidate must be able to utilize technology and other resources to provide direction, support and to oversee the remote delivery of services.

Qualifications

University degree in a related field plus three years of related experience:


  • Management/coordination of programs delivering client services
  • Managing/coordinating a roster of service providers
  • Delivery of front-line alternative dispute resolution services in a legal/court environment
  • Supervision of staff and/or volunteers

Experience in dispute resolution is required. Training in interest based, non-evaluative mediation from a recognized organization is also required. Equivalencies will be considered.


Equivalencies will be considered as defined below:


A Bachelor of Social Work and 1-year related experience; Masters of Social Work and some related experience; OR related diploma and 4 years related experience; OR related certificate and 5 years related experience.

Salary

$2,671.74 to $3,453.39 biweekly ($69,732.00 to $90,133.00 yearly

Notes

The Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, and the Provincial Court of Alberta (the Courts) each have their own policy aside from the Government of Alberta proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. The Courts' COVID Vaccination Policy requires all staff to be fully vaccinated to access courtrooms and court workplaces in the Alberta courthouses effective November 1, 2021.


This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15AM – 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.


This is a two year temporary position located in anywhere in Edmonton.
