The Health Information Systems Division is responsible for the administration of Alberta's Health Information Act including health information policy and advice as well as the strategic planning and delivery of information management and technology systems and services that support the strategic goals of the Ministry and the health system.
Role
The Privacy and Security team within the Ministry of Health is looking for a strong team player to join the Health Information Act (HIA) Policy, Privacy, and Security Unit. If you bring a collaborative, team mentality and take initiative to support a solution-focused approach to information technology security and risk management, we want to hear from you!
In the role of a Security Analyst, you test and assess the security integrity and information security controls within Alberta Health through risk modelling and identification activities. Your ability to delivery effective and high quality IT security and risk management services to stakeholders relies on your strong relationship building skills.
The Security Analyst is responsible for:
- Leading the departmental information security incident response process.
- Researching new tools and techniques to assess department's security controls and integrate these tools into the Security Management program.
- Responding to queries from business areas on exceptions and unique scenarios to provide the flexibility for the business area for each query while managing the security of information appropriately.
- Collaborates with the Corporate Information Security Office (CISO) to vet Government of Alberta security policies, standards, procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Information Security Manager, Privacy and Security or the Director, Health Information Act Policy, Privacy and Security.
Overall, you are passionate about IT security and risk management. You are a team player, helping your clients understand and address these concerns with the support of your team. You take initiative and bring a collaborative approach to your work and professional relationships. You are competent in working in a dynamic environment and have an ability to leverage creative solutions using existing tools and resources in place. Your communication skills are strong and enable Alberta Health to manage IT security and risk.
Qualifications
A University Degree in Information Systems Security Management or Information Technology or related computer technology field is required.
Required experience includes:
- Experience with IT security
- IT risk management
- Experience with Information Security testing tools and techniques
Preference will be given to individuals with:
- Experience with policy research and analysis
- Health system experience
The following experience is considered an asset:
- Certified Information Systems security Professional (CISSP) designation
- Formal education, training, or certifications directly related to IT security and/or risk management.
A cover letter outlining how your experience relates to the qualifications of this role is required.
Equivalency considered:
- 2 year diploma in IT Security or related discipline and 2 years of related experience
- 1 year certificate and 3 years of related experience

Salary
$2,161.37 to $ 3,241.54 ($56,411 to $84,604 / year)
