About Us
The Trade, Investment and Food Safety Division expands and diversifies Alberta's food and bio-product manufacturing sector in local and global markets while also providing effective food safety assurance systems.
The Food Safety Branch (FSB) consists of the Office of the Executive Director and two sections: Meat and Dairy Inspection and Agri-Food Assurance. This branch is responsible for inspection oversight of provincially licensed meat and dairy facilities, and providing surveillance and outreach support to these stakeholders. The agri-food laboratories conducts testing to support regulatory oversight of the Department's food safety and animal health legislation. The branch also serves as the department's lead on cross-jurisdictional foodborne illness outbreak response.

If this sounds like you, then the Branch Administrator position supporting the Food Safety Branch (FSB) with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development (AFRED) may be the perfect opportunity!
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Branch Administrator manages the daily operations of FSB, and coordinates the administration of the Branch. The Branch Administrator is critical in providing complex, responsible and accountable administrative assistance to the ED and Section Directors by effectively communicating with staff and following applicable ministry policies and procedures. This position ensures the administrative standards and correspondence across the Branch are consistent and supports the full complement of administrative services to the ED. This position requires a high level of leadership, initiative, independence, adaptability, and deals with confidential material to meet the operational needs of the Branch. This position may also provide cover-off for the Assistant Deputy Minister's (ADM) Executive Assistant as requested.
The successful candidate will also be required to assign numerous Action Requests (ARs), follow-up and or coordinate responses, review/edit documents, and ensure timeliness with pressing deadlines. The Branch Administrator manages the purchasing of supplies and services and other procurement using 1GX coordinates, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) requests, and manages contracts and agreements for the Branch. Adherence to Government of Alberta policies is critical for reviewing purchases and expenditures. This position provides support and cover off for the Branch Financial Coordinator, an understanding of finance and budget concepts would be an asset complemented with strong Excel skills.

Qualifications
High school diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience is required. Related experience includes executive administration, issues management, financial administration, forecasting, budgeting (accruals, transfers, reporting), developing and monitoring agreements, and contracts.
Office Administration, Business Administration, or related discipline is preferred.
Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets
- Excellent grammar and proof-reading skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, M365 and other MS office products
- Experience with Government Systems: SAP (1GX), Universal Content Management (UCM), or Action Request Tracking Systems (ARTS)
- Experience in records management
- Experience in coordination of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) requests
- An understanding of finance and budget concepts
- An understanding of project management concepts

Salary
$1,861.71 to $2,279.37 bi-weekly: ($48,590 to $59,491 yearly)
