Mission Eye Care is a busy, local, 5 doctor independent optometry practice located just south of downtown Calgary in the community of Mission. We are expanding our space and looking to add another optometric technician to join our growing team!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an Optometric Technician, you'll be a part of a team led by our clinic supervisor. You would be a team player and possess strong critical thinking skills. Your main role is collecting relevant patient history and taking preliminary measurements but you will also be taught how to perform patient procedures over time. You will be responsible for:
- Navigating and maintaining a respectful and collaborative team environment
- Communicating with patients, staff, and doctors; gathering relevant medical history, learning medical terminology and abbreviations as needed
- Training patients to wear contact lenses safely
- Testing and treatments for dry eye. This requires steady hand-eye coordination and comfort around touching areas of the eyes and face. You will be assisting our doctors and performing some procedures independently with appropriate training

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO MISSION EYE CARE:
Not everyone is well suited to be an Optometric Technician. To be considered for this role, we ask that all applicants possess the following:
- Experience: At least 2 years in a customer-service driven role; medical experience will be given priority.
- Characteristics: you should be a self-starter who can take initiative. You will have meticulous attention to detail. You will need to perform medical diagnostics and procedures with little-to-no supervision once fully trained. You will also recognize the importance of a productive workplace and take the initiative to perform administrative tasks during downtime.
- Skills: You should have general idea of eye anatomy. If you do not possess this knowledge, please do a search prior to your interview as you will be asked questions about the eye. You must be an excellent communicator. With some training, you will be expected to understand the types of appointments and how quickly and efficiently discern the reason for a patient visit.
- Communication: Written and oral communication is very important in our line of work. Please ensure your resume and cover letter are free of spelling and/or grammatical errors, as this is our first indicator of your written communication skills.
